Ceri Richards was born in Wales and studied at the Royal College of Art.
I have included him in this sculpture section as most of his early artwork in the 1930s were constructions which he carried on producing throughout his life, but he is better known as a painter.
He represented the UK at the Venice Biennale in 1962 and was a prize-winner. He exhibited at Marlborough Fine Art alongside Francis Bacon at this time and was regarded as being at the same level.
The Tate Gallery have a huge collection of his work and there are a few books available, the best is by Mel Gooding.
A wonderful artist [Wales's best] whose work is at it's finest when closest to abstraction [e.g. the early constructions and the Cathedrale Engloutie series [1960s] - particularly the small and medium size canvases].
